Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is crisis intervention?
A crisis is not an event.  It is one's overwhelming response to an event or life-circumstance.  A crisis knocks one out-of-balance.  We define intervention as what to "do and say" in the first three to seventy-two hours of a crisis.
  • What's the difference between training & consulting?
Beyond imparting skills & knowledge, effective training equips & motivates others to action...and to further research & skills development.  Post-training, people should be saying to themselves, "I can do this (starting today).  I will Pass-It-On to others.  I want to learn more."  Training should be PTSS - Practical Transferable Simple Scalable.
Consulting is asking good questions & active listening.  Effective consultation helps identify needs and opportunities while suggesting potential resources and solutions.
  • What is psychological first aid?
It is supportive and compassionate crisis intervention for the soul: the mind, will and emotions.  PFA is to the soul, what medical first aid is to the body.  The goal is to reduce distress and facilitate continued support as needed.
  • How do you define pastoral crisis intervention?
It is the integration of traditional spiritual and/or religious crisis intervention with sound emotional support and/or psychological first aid.  The goal is to stabilize the person in a crisis so they can return to their daily routine; to introduce them with new coping skills; or to refer them to appropriate on-going support if needed.
  • Is the Bible and spiritual emphasis part of all of your part of all of your services?
Our CITC services are built upon Judeo-Christian values and principles, like the Golden Rule or Jesus' Parable of the Good Samaritan in the Bible.  (Luke 10:25-37) The Bible, prayer and spiritual emphasis can added or not, according to the audience and the client's preference.
  • What's behind your website name?
Our name, TheRock724.com, comes from a parable Jesus told in Matthew 7:24-25.  He said, "Therefore, anyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice, is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the wind blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."
Our name also refers to Psalms 40:1-2.  The Psalmist wrote,  I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire, He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand.
  • What's the difference between a Chaplain and a Pastor?
A Pastor offers spiritual oversight to a particular faith, religion, church and/or denomination.  A Chaplain serves people regardless of their faith choice or practice.  Pat serves as both.
